Top 10 Reasons Why Women Ditched Eyelash Extensions for False Eyelashes
Love or Hate Relationship
Eyelash extensions you either love them or you hate them. Extensions don’t always work for everyone, some people eyes are too sensitive and some get eye infection from them. There one thing everyone who has had eyelash extensions knows, they are high maintenance and with that comes high costs. Read below to find out more reasons why many women ditched the extensions and turned to false eyelashes instead.
1. They Can Damage Your Natural Lashes
There are many factors as to why lash extensions can ruin your real eyelashes. Many find that their real lashes become damaged after getting extensions, this is usually because the extensions are too heavy for the real lashes to support and results in brittle, dry lashes or the loss of your real eyelashes! However, sometimes it is simply the case that your eyelashes may not be strong or long enough in the first place. If you notice your lashes looking dry, brittle and unhealthy or a loss of eyelashes, you should always take a break from extensions or stop wearing them completely. Many find that Luxury 3D Mink or Faux Mink (vegan) lashes can give the same feel and appearance as the extensions do but without the damage. False eyelashes are also great when you are taking a break from lash extensions as they allow your lashes to regrow and become healthier whilst still have gorgeous lashes every day! T
It is important to get extensions done at a salon that has well trained, qualified and insured staff as well as having a hygienic environment. If you are tempted by a super cheap price to go to someone who is any of the above, then you run the risk of damaging your real lashes, getting an eye infection, in growing lashes and even run the risk of losing parts of your vison! This is because they may not have the correct lash tech kit, may not be fully trained with a qualification and the environment may not be clean enough. If you are aware that a ‘lash tech’ does not have any insurance… run for the hills! This will more than likely be a dodgy set up and all lash techs are required by law in the UK to have the correct insurance coverage! These ‘lash techs’ may not sterilise their tools correctly which will pass on others germs and could give you a bad eye infection. If the ‘lash tech’ doesn’t apply the lashes properly as a trained tech would do, you have a high risk of getting in growing eyelashes and that is very painful, certainly not worth the risk.
2. Eyelash Extensions Require High Maintenance
Some women find that it’s not too bad getting your lashes done for a special occasion however, once you get the first full set your trapped. You will need to go for an infill between every 2 – 4 week depending on how fast your lashes grow. And with high maintenance come high costs…
3. They Are Very Expensive
As we all know, lash extensions can cost us a pretty penny. This is because you have to pay for a full set which can set you back on average of anywhere up to £120. You will also need to get infills every 2 – 4 weeks depending on how fast your lashes grow which costs on average around £60. For many of us, this kind of money could be used elsewhere and puts us back each month. An alternative is to invest in a good pair of false eyelashes instead, this will take you a few extra minutes each morning but will defiantly help the bank account. We recommend the Luxury 3D Mink or Faux Mink (vegan) lashes as these look and feel similar to extensions and are under £10! If you want to be super savvy, why not invest in a multi pack to save them extra coins.
4. Finding a Good Lash Artist Can Be Difficult
Lash techs can be booked up quite quickly since everyone with extensions needs to have infills and new people decide to get a full set of lashes. It takes around 1 – 3 hours to get a full set and around 1 – 2 hours to get an infill. Since each appointment time is a couple of hours, the lash tech may struggle to squeeze you in especially for a refill when you want it as someone else is more than likely to have taken that space. It can also be hard to find a lash tech that has available appointment times when convenient to you. If you work a 9 – 5 then it’s very unlikely you will get an appointment during the week and therefore, you have to rely on a weekend appointment which are always in high demand. It can also be difficult to find a lash tech who is close to home and can do the eyelashes how you want them to be done. Think of it this way, you want to go blonde not all hairdressers can get you to the colour you want. However, the more trained and professional hairdressers will have a busy schedule so you may have to wait several weeks… the same goes for lash techs!
5. The Application Process Can Be Long & Agonizing
Usually lash extensions can take anywhere from one to three hours depending on how full the lashes are. After an hour of laying on an uncomfortable table you begin to get agitated and bored. The worst bit is you can’t head to the toilet during this process so you’ll just have to hold on for another two hours. False eyelashes take a matter of minutes to apply and create the same look.
6. False Eyelashes Do the Same Job
Extensions take between 2 – 3 hours to apply whilst false eyelashes take just a few minutes. Although lash extensions last around 2 – 3 weeks whilst false eyelashes have to be removed before bed. It’s all about weighing up the good and the bad, would you rather add a few minutes to your makeup routine or wait up to three hours to get them and head back to your salon every couple of weeks?
7. Not Everyone Suits Eyelash Extensions
For some people eyelash extensions can really over power their face and making their eyes appear droopy. This can be the case when applied or when they have grown out. This can be a problem if you don’t consult with your lash tech prior to getting them done. Your lash tech should discuss the best styles, lengths and materials for your face and eye shape. However, many lash techs do use a one fits all method which can result in unflattering results.
8. Lash Extensions Can Mess With Your Self-Image
Once you have got your lash extensions you see yourself in a different light and can’t imagine why you never had them before. Once you get used to waking up with the perfect lashes it can be hard to go back. Not to mention you and now stuck spending your hard earned coin just to maintain these lashes. Once they are removed most people feel their real eyelashes are damaged, dry and brittle and can cause you to compare yourself before and after your lash extensions. If you find you have struggled going without your extensions, why not use the Luxury 3D Mink or Faux Mink (vegan) lashes instead? These give the same look and feel as extensions without the high cost, maintenance and damaged lashes!
9. Don’t Always Work for Glasses Wearers
For some that wear glasses and have had extensions they know the struggle can be real. Many find that their extensions can get too long, especially when they are growing out and are due an infill. The extensions touch the lenses in their glasses and can be super annoying. This could be avoided by wearing contact lenses, but this is something not everyone is prepared to wear!
10. They Interfere With Your Makeup & Skincare Routine
When wearing lash extensions, you need to prepare to change your beauty routine. You should avoid wearing eyeshadow, eyeliner or mascara on your lashes as this can damage them and cause them to become clumpy. When you have extensions you also need to be mindful of what products you put on your face, especially near your eyes. Avoid any products with any type of oil in it as this can destroy the bonds between your natural eyelashes and the extensions. You will also have to avoid certain cleansers, moisturisers and serum because of this which is fine for some but for others completely destroys their makeup and skincare routine!
