In the world of eyelash extensions, there is no one size fits all, instead it is all about customising your clients lashes to suit their face and create the look they want to achieve. Once you understand everything about the curls and sizes you will understand the importance of having a variety so you can customise. Let’s Talk Types of Lash Curls

J Curl: This is a curl that is a match made in heaven for those who have naturally straight or down slanting eyelashes. However, this is not recommend for those who have a curl to their natural eyelashes as this lash will appear too straight. This is why this lash curl isn’t used very often but when it is the client loves having a curl that suits their lashes perfectly. The J curl will also create a very natural look which is perfect for those who want to subtly enhance their lashes.

B Curl: This lash curl is a step up from the J curl and can be used on clients who have downward slanting lashes or straight lashes. The difference is the B curl has more of a curl to it than the J curl which will give the clients a ‘lash lift’ look. This is a little more dramatic than the J curl so is perfect for those who want to add a little subtle drama.

C Curl: This is one of the most popular curls used, so if you are a lash tech and don’t have C curls in what are you doing? These are so popular due to their curl which gives the appearance of larger and more open eyes.

D Curl: This is also a very popular lash curl. The difference between the C and D curl is the D curl is curlier than the C curl. This curl should be avoided on clients who have hooded eyes as this could cause irritation when the curl is growing out and it can curl back into the client’s lid. If your client still wants curly and more dramatic lashes we recommend you use the L+ curl, they will love it.

L+ Curl: This is a great match for those who have straight natural lashes rather than upward or downward slanting lashes. It is very similar to both the C curl and the D curl, however it has a straighter and flatter base. This helps the extensions blend with the clients natural lashes but gives them the curl and lift they want. If a client has straight lashes and you applied a C or D curl theses lashes would be to curved at the base, this causes premature fall out and shedding of the extensions meaning your client will have to come for infills sooner than they should normally.

Let’s talk Eyelash Extension Size

There are two things you need to keep in mind when selecting the right extension size for you client; length and diameter. The key is to select the right size and diameter for you client to avoid damage as too much weight on their lashes can cause damage, breakage and can cause their lashes to fall out prematurely. If your client has thin or damages lashes you should be super careful not to over load as this will be a disaster! When selecting lash sizes you should always follow these rules: Never use a length more than 2 – 3 mm longer than their real lashes. Anything longer than this will cause damage due to excess weight and their extensions will fall out before they should! Be sure to match the diameter to your clients real lashes, you should only go slightly thicker to create a dramatic look, however avoid going thicker if their lashes are not healthy enough.
