Guide: How to Make the Whites of Your Eyes Even Whiter
Bright Eyes
Bright eyes can really make your iris pop as well as enhancing your eye makeup and falsies! It may not be the first thing you think of doing when doing your makeup and you may have never even thought of it before! Some of us understand how annoying it can be waking up to bloodshot eyes after a long day working behind the computer screen. It’s always best to keep in mind that are eyes need a little TLCA too! Dull, blood shot or dull eyes aren’t cute however, you can easily fix these problems! Check out our top 8 tips and tricks that will help you achieve beautiful eyes.
1. Use Eye Drops
Seems pretty obvious right? This can be a game changer for those with itchy or irritable eyes. There are many eye drop products out there and you can pick them up from a pharmacist, drug store and even some super markets! It can sometimes take a few sessions of apply the eye drops to feel and see a big difference, but stick with it as it could fix your eye problems in the long run!
2. False Eyelashes
Pop on a pair of black false eyelashes, the more dramatic the better when it comes to brightening those beautiful eyes of yours! We highly recommend the Luxury 3D Mink or Faux Mink (vegan) false eyelashes. There is a range of styles from natural to dramatic with something to suit everyone’s needs.
3. Open Your Eyes Using Eyelash Curlers
Eyelash curlers are a god send when it comes to curling and opening up those beautiful eyes of yours. Eyelash curlers give you a lash lift without having to use any chemicals on them, but the best part is they take seconds to use! You should use lash curlers if you want a little lash lift, before your mascara or applying false eyelashes. Lash curlers are particularly great to use before applying false eyelashes since it will ensure your real eyelashes blend seamlessly with your falsies!
How do I use an eyelash curler? Grab your eyelash curler and clamp your eyelashes near to the base. Hold the curler in place for around 20 – 30 seconds and release. Compare your eyelashes to your other eye, you should see a big difference!
4. Select a Mascara with Maximum Impact
What is the opposite to white? Black, or should we say ultra-black! To really make the whites of your eyes appear even brighter, you want to go as black as black can be! Also select a mascara that is lengthening.
Step One: Choose the Best Formula for You
There is no ‘best’ mascara, of course there are good and bad ones but it’s all about what works best for you and gives the best results. Before purchasing a mascara, decide whether you want waterproof or regular as well as the colour; ultra-black, black or brown, if you’re feeling adventurous why not try a coloured one. The colour you decide on depends on the look you’re going for, ultra-black is the most impactful and dramatic, whilst a brown will give you the benefits of mascara but will keep things looking more natural. You should also keep in mind and ask yourself the question of ‘what do I want from my mascara?’ If you are looking to lengthen your lashes then opt for a lengthening mascara. There are plenty of options such as volume, lengthening, long lasting, 24 hour etc. A top tip is to check the wand the mascara comes in, different wand types will give you different results; a thicker wand will give you more volume whilst a thinner wand will give you more length.
Step Two: Wipe Off the Excess Mascara before Applying
Be sure the wipe any excess mascara off the brush before applying. If you don’t do this then you run the risk of clumpy lashes. However, for some this is the look they are going for so stack up them layers!
Step Three: Apply Mascara to the Lash Root
When it comes to application you want to make the most out of the mascara. It’s always best to start working from the root and towards the end of your lashes. By applying mascara to the root, this gives the appearance of fuller, thicker lashes! Keep repeating this step until you are happy with the amount of volume you’ve achieved. You can also use this method on your bottom eyelashes.
Step Four: The “Out-Up-In” Method
This method makes sure your lashes don’t all clump together and ensures they are more spaced out like your own lashes are. To use the ‘out-up-in’ method start at the outer corner of you eye, apply the mascara at an angle. This will pull the eyelashes up and out helping them appearing much longer. Next, move to the centre of your eye and pull the lashes up and move onto the lashes in your inner corner and pull them in. If you feel you need to be more precise in the inner corner then why not use the tip of the mascara wand?
Step Five: Apply Mascara to Your Bottom Lashes
Use the same technique as you did on your upper lashes, but this time on your bottom lashes. We recommend you use a thinner mascara wand for this as it will help you be more precise and prevent you from getting on your under eye. If you find this hard to do without getting mascara everywhere apply some cello tape underneath your eye or hold a piece of card there. This will prevent mascara getting on your skin and will go on the cello tape or card instead.
Step Six: Finishing Touches
Now that you have applied the mascara properly, you may want to use an eyelash curler or pop on a pair of your favourite false eyelashes. We recommend the Luxury 3D Mink or Faux Mink (vegan) lashes.
5. Apply White / Nude or Beige Eyeliner to Your Waterline
These eyeliner shades will do wonders for opening up and brightening your eyes. If you are going for a more dramatic eye look we suggest you use a white eyeliner, however if you are wanting to make your eyes naturally look whiter, wider and brighter we suggest you opt for a nude or beige eyeliner. When applying any eyeliner to your waterline be careful. We suggest you only use either a pencil or crayon eyeliner and avoid liquid or gel liners! This is because gel or liquid liners don’t work well in your waterline since it is a wetter area and you will end up with bits of eyeliner flaking off into your eyes (not cute). If you are using a pencil or crayon eyeliner, you should also be sure that the liner is not too sharp that you end up hurting yourself! To avoid this, sharpen your pencil or crayon liner and rub the pointy bit on the back of your hand until it becomes blunter.
Want to open your eyes but still want a smokey eye? No problem! Apply your smokey eyeliner to your upper eyelid just above your lash line and smoke it out. Then grab your white, nude or beige eyeliner and apply this to your upper and lower waterline!
How do I apply white, nude or beige eyeliner to my waterline? Grab the shade of eyeliner you are using, make sure it is either a pencil or crayon liner. Pull up your upper lid taught and applying the liner. When you’re happy, pull down your lower lid tough and add the liner. Reapply anywhere you feel needs a little more and then you are good to go!
6. Dot Your Upper Lash Line with Liquid Eyeliner
Old but gold! This is a great technique for anyone wanting thicker and more voluminous eyelashes. It is also great for those not feeling up to applying eyeliner straight across your lash line. Dotting your upper lash line will fill in any gaps which your mascara hasn’t covered as well as give the illusion of a fuller and thicker lash line!
How do I dot my lash line? Look down in a mirror and look for any gaps in your lash line you want to fill. Simply dot some eyeliner in this gap and continue to do this until you are happy with how your eyelashes look.
7. Finish Off With a Shimmery Shadow
A shimmery eyeshadow can really make a difference, choose a light colour shimmer such as a white. If you want your eyes too really pop we recommend you use a highlighter in a campaign shade!
8. Highlight the Inner Corners of Your Eyes
What’s better at highlighting your beautiful eyes than highlighter itself! Apply a small amount of highlighter to a brush (you could also use your finger) and apply to the inner corners of your eyes. To maximise your highlight, we suggest spraying the brush with a setting spray, this will really make the highlighter pop!
