How to Make Your Eyelash Extensions Last Longer
For many lash lovers they swear by their false eyelash extensions. However, if you do not look after your extensions correctly you will find that they are not lasting as long as you may have hoped. We have put together the ultimate guide for making your lash extensions last as long as possible and with that come saving some extra coin! It’s a win – win situation. It is all down to the after care of your extensions that will make sure you are getting the most out of them.
Selecting The Right Extensions For You
Believe it or not, selecting the right pair of lashes for you will make your extensions last longer. The general rule of thumb is the thicker and fuller the extensions, the heavier they are on your natural eyelashes and the faster they will fall out. So if you are looking for extensions that will last the longest, we suggest you go for classic lashes. If you are going for a fuller lash look then suggest to your lash tech to use around 0.07 mm and 0.05 mm range. This will make sure your lashes are much lighter and therefore last longer!
Select Lash Extensions Similar To Your Natural Lash Shape
Before getting your extensions done, ask you lash tech to use eyelashes that are similar to you natural lash shape. For example, if you have straight lashes naturally and you opt for super curled lashes then when it come to your lashes growing out it’s going to be obvious. However, not to worry if your eyelashes are naturally more straight you can still opt for a curlier lash style just make sure you use lash curlers each day to keep them blending seamlessly.
Avoid water or steam for the first 48 hours after getting your extensions or infills done!
It is super important that once the extensions have been applied that you avoid getting water or steam near you face. Sounds a little dramatic but it is so important if you want them gorgeous lashes to last! During the first 48 hours of having your falsies done, the lash adhesive is still setting. Any water or steam that may come into contact with your lashes could prevent the glue from sticking to its full potential which will lead to your lashes falling out way earlier than needed. Not to worry you can still clean and cleanse your face just avoid the eye area. We recommend you stay away from washing your face in the bath, shower or sink and stick to cleansing with makeup wipes or micellar water. This way you are minimising the chances of getting your lashes wet and chances are it’s pretty slim you will get your babies wet.
Eye Makeup AKA Mascara, Eyeliner & Eye Shadow
Yes we understand that once you have your gorgeous extensions in place it is tempting to get experimenting with different eye looks. However, it is advised that you should never apply mascara to your extensions. This is because it damages the lashes and the shape. You will notice that your extensions will begin to look dirty and chunky this is because it is hard to remove mascara from the extensions and will make them loose their full and fluffiness. Can I apply eyeliner? Yes go ahead but be careful when removing it from your eyes! This is because when you remove eyeliner you tend to need to rub it off and rubbing your eye area with extensions is a big no-no. Okay, so what about eye shadow? We recommend if you do wear eyeshadow opt for those will as little to no fall out. This is because the eyeshadow fall out will end up in your extensions and create a mess, it is super hard to get the eye shadow out of your lashes. We would also suggest that you use a cream eyeshadow as this will eliminate the risk of fall out, just remember not to rub your eyes too much when removing it before bed.
Removing Makeup – Keep it Oil Free!
It is important to keep in mind when you have lash extensions that you can’t just use any old makeup remover. We strongly advice that you use an oil free makeup remover. This is because the oil can affect the bonds of your false eyelash extensions thus leading to them falling out. To use the oil free makeup remover, apply the remover to a cotton pad and gently apply to the area until all makeup is removed. Avoid rubbing the area, instead gently create swipe motions until makeup is removed.
Eye Creams
When using eye creams with extensions in you need to be mindful of the products in it. Stay away from oil based eye creams as these can damage your extensions. This is because the oil from creams will break up the glue and cause your lashes to fall out a lot quicker than they should!
Sleep On Your Back
For some this is easier said than done but it is important to avoid sleeping on either your side or front. This is because in the night your extensions will be pressed up against you pillow and could get flattened resulting in not so pretty lashes the following day. The more you sleep not on your back, the faster your lashes will begin to look a hot mess. All the pressure on the falsies will misshape them and lead to them falling out sooner than needed. So get sleeping on your back from now if you want your babies to last!
Keep Them Brushed Morning & Night
You wouldn’t not brush your hair every day would you? The same goes for lashes but they do need a little extra TLC. Be sure to use a clean mascara wand / spoolie to brush through your lashes morning and night. If you want to keep your extinctions looking super fluffy be sure to keep them brushes throughout the day, especially if it has been windy out or you have hit the gym. We also recommend you use a lash curler to keep the curl in your lashes, this will keep them looking amazing for much longer!
Have A Lash Infill Every 2 – 3 weeks
The problem is many leave their infill a little too long and end up paying for a full set which is going to set you back in cash further than needed. We recommend you head back to the salon every 2 – 3 weeks or however long the beautician suggests. It is not a great look having over grown out lash extensions and it is also is not good on your natural lashes. The heavier and more outgrown your lashes are, the more damage it will cause to your natural ones. This is because of the weight your lashes are holding and can cause your real lashes to start falling out.
If you follow our advice your lash extensions should be kept in the best condition possible which will prevent lashes falling out and damaging your natural eyelashes. Your extensions will stay full and fluffy for as long as possible!
Use an Eyelash Sealer
We recommend using an eyelash sealer. What is eyelash sealer and what does it do? It comes in a tube and looks just like a normal mascara however it is much thinner than mascara. You apply this to your extensions with seals the lashes and gives protection from dust as well as making them look healthier and conditioned. It is recommend you use this at least once a week on your extensions after cleaning them.
