Guide: Everything about Eyelash Extension Infills
Eyelash Extension Infills
First things first, what is an eyelash extension infill? An infill is needed every 2-3 weeks, however this does depend on how fast your natural eyelashes grown and shed. On average, natural eyelashes shed over 60-90 due to the lash cycle, when lashes fall out new lashes will grow to replace them. An eyelash infill usually takes around 30-45 minutes, however this is also dependant on the type of extensions you have. For example, a set of Russian / Volume lash infill will take longer than a Hybrid set infill, a hybrid infill will take longer than a Classic set infill. This is because Russian / Volume set requires more extensions than Hybrid or Classics for example.
How is an Infill done?
An infill in done every 2-3 weeks however, some find they only need to get an infill every 4 weeks due to their natural lash cycle. The lash technician will fill in the areas that look sparse and have lost their extensions to create a full set again. The infill is done by dipping each extension in a small amount of adhesive and applying the eyelash extensions close to the natural lash line using tweezers.
There are several factors that affect how frequently you will need an infill:
Most eyelash technicians will inform you on how to care for your extensions after you have had new extensions put in so follow the advice as it really makes a huge difference!
Aftercare: This is crucial if you want your gorgeous eyelash extensions to last. Your eyelash extensions should be cleansed frequently to remove any dirt build up.
Makeup: If you want your eyelash extensions to last as long as possible, avoid using eyeshadow or makeup around the eye area. Never apply false eyelashes or mascara over your extensions, ever! This causes more trouble than it is worth, it is extremely hard to remove makeup such as mascara or glue from false eyelashes. You may think that you can clean them up and discard any evidence of using these products but your lash artist will know trust us and they won’t be happy. It can also cause issues with the appointment as it can take up to half an hour for you lash artist to remove this build up which may affect following appointments as lashes need to be fully makeup free and cleansed before a full set or an infill.
Water & Heat: Up to 48 hours after you have had a full set or infill as the adhesive used needs time to set fully and cure. After 48 hours it won’t affect your extensions as much if they are to get wet, however we strongly advise against getting them wet unless you have to. Specially formulated extension cleansers and products are great to use to cleanse them as they are gentle on your lashes and do a better job than simply cleaning them with water. Heat is also another factor, heat will cause your lashes to fall out faster, however this is something that can’t always be avoided if for example you are on a hot holiday or you live in a hot country.
Products: Using the right products for your lashes will prolong the life of your extensions. There are certain makeup products, skincare and cleansers that are not suitable for eyelash extensions. To keep things safe, why not use products that are specially formulated for use with eyelash extensions, this way you can’t go wrong!
Sleep: Did you know that they way you sleep can prolong the wear of your eyelash extensions? You should try your best to sleep on your back if possible as there is very little change of you resting on your lashes. However, if you are unable to sleep on your back, try to sleep on your side with your face slightly tilted away from the pillow so your lashes aren’t touching the pillow. Avoid sleeping on your front as you are more than likely going to lean on your lashes and damage them.
