Eyelash Adhesive
Choose wisely
It is extremely important to select your lash glue wisely. Do you research as without lash adhesive there would be no eyelash extensions! So how to I find the perfect eyelash adhesive for me? First things first, be careful where you purchase from! There is a wide range of adhesives out there and not all of them are safe and good to work with. Always purchase your glue from a registered beauty supply store and never from private sellers or any form of marketplace. Yes it may seem like a bargain and that is because you never really know what’s in it, even if the ingredients are listed on the bottle that’s not always the full truth. Your eyes are a very sensitive and delicate area and not worth the risks or irritation just stock up from a trusted beauty supply store!
Not all lash adhesives are the same!
You should always read and follow the instructions on your adhesive as what works well for one brand may not for another! So what is so different about them? Different glues have different curing times and work differently in certain environments.
Lash adhesives have a shelf life!
Like most other cosmetic products, lash adhesive to have a shelf life. As there are many different glues on the market there is also different shelf lives and should stick by the shelf life that is stated on the bottle. However, lash adhesives usually last around 4 – 6 weeks after being opened. If you are unsure how long your lash adhesive has been opened for, you can check for the following; cloudiness and stringiness. If you find your adhesive looks cloudy or has become stringy, dispose of it and start with a new bottle. There is no point in trying to use the adhesive when it is like this as it will be super hard to work with and the extensions will fall out faster than they would normally.
Looking after & storing your lash adhesive
In order to make the most out of your lash glue you will need to ensure you store it correctly. The place you store it in should be a in a cool, dark and dry place so you should avoid leaving it out after you have finishes with it and pop it away.
Make sure you shake your eyelash adhesive properly and regularly!
It is super important to remember to always shake the adhesive up before using it. This is because the ingredients in the glue can separate when the bottle is left to sit. For best results it is recommended that you shake it before using and between appointments if you want to make the most out of your beloved lash adhesive.
How to shake your adhesive properly:
- How long do I need to shake it for? Different glues needs various times to mix all ingredients up properly but on average we recommend you shake for 2 minutes.
- Don’t just shake the bottle gently, it needs to be shaken up very, very well. You will know if you have shaken it well enough if your arm aches a little. If you don’t want to keep shaking it up yourself, you can actually get a little machine that shakes it for you! Yep, there is pretty much an easy solution to everything.
- Don’t shake your lash adhesive with the lid or cap on. No we aren’t that stupid, we don’t mean just shake it so it lands everywhere. Instead of shaking it up with the cap or lid on use any kind of lint free material, tin foil is a popular way but you could also use a makeup sponge if you don’t have any tin foil at hand.
- In order to remove any bubbles that sometimes occur in your adhesive after shaking, pop the nozzle back on and make sure it is the right way up. Gently squeeze the bottle to release any trapped air. This is very important as the bubbles can affect your drop.
Once you have found the perfect glue for you stick with it!
Let’s talk technique!
Not everyone lashes the same way. This depends on how you was taught and there is not just one right way. We always recommend that you try all techniques out as you may find that one suits you more than your original technique. The two main techniques are dip and place, shimmy or swipe and place.
The key is to always make sure the bond has been made correctly onto the surface of the lash. If the bond is weak, when the lashes are brushes, slept on or cleansed the bond becomes weaker and weaker and therefore you client will notice premature fall out.
Environment
Humidity – What level of humidity is good for drying lash extensions? You want to keep humidity low at the salon as the adhesive will harden faster. However, your clients aren’t going to sit in your salon for 24 hours waiting for the adhesive to cure so what should I advise them? Once your clients have left the salon, they need to avoid humid environments such as showers and baths for example. However, it is not always as easy as that if you live in a country where humidity is naturally high. If this is the case it is best to keep your car and house cool by using air conditioning or a having a fan nearby.
Why you should avoid humid environment within the 24 hour period after having your lash extensions done? The humid environment will prevent the adhesive from curing as fast and could take up to 48 hours or even longer. You want your extensions to last as long as possible so just keep in a dry, cool environment.
You should also select your lash adhesive based on your environment.
Remember: Not everyone has natural eyelashes with good retention! If you notice the majority of your clients have good retention but one or two don’t, it may not be you – it may just be their natural lashes! The health of your client’s natural lashes has an impact on their retention so bare that in mind.
