Eyelash Extensions: Lash Accelerator VS Primer
Lash Accelerator VS Primer
Whether you are new to the world of eyelash extensions or you are unsure whether you need to start using a lash accelerator or a primer we have put together everything you need to know right here. Many eyelash technicians may not have been taught how to use an eyelash accelerator or a primer whilst some may have been taught how to use one or the other or even both. Lash accelerators and primers are used for different purposes, however they both can really improve how long your client’s extensions last. After reading you may want to just use one or the other, there is no right or wrong way it is all about what you find works for you. We highly recommended you try out new techniques and products as you never know, it might just help you get one step closer to creating the perfect set of eyelash extensions!
First of all, what is a lash accelerator?
Lash accelerator is applied to the eyelash extensions only and is not to be applied to your client’s natural eyelashes. You should keep applying this product throughout lashing every 40 minutes or so. This product helps to speed up the curing time of the eyelash adhesive which speeds up the time it takes to apply. As the glue cures faster using this product, many find that their client’s eyelashes last longer. This is because many clients ignore advice for the 24 hour period after application and end up getting them wet for example before they have fully cured. As the lash accelerator speeds up the curing time, there is less time for your client to make these mistakes which causes their extensions to fall out prematurely.
What is a Lash Primer?
Lash primer should only be applied to your client’s natural eyelashes and not the extensions. Primer is added prior to applying the eyelash extensions as a pre-treatment as it helps strengthen the bond between the real eyelashes and extensions. But how does it do this? The primer helps provide the optimal PH level which therefore creates a stronger bond between both lashes. The primer makes the client’s lashes surface rougher which helps the lash adhesive create a better bond due to the better grip and therefore reduces premature fall out.
What is the difference?
Primers are used on the client’s real eyelashes whereas lash accelerators are used on the eyelash extensions.
Primers help with retention by creating a stronger bond between the client’s real eyelashes and the extensions. Lash accelerators speed up the curing time of the eyelash adhesive used.
Both used together can really prolong the wear time and can help with premature break out.
Benefits of using Lash Primers
Can help retention for those who have naturally oily / greasy skin, hair or lashes. These clients tend to notice their extensions don’t last as long as others and can find the have a lot of premature fall out. Remember, oil and eyelash extensions don’t work well together! The Lash primer balances the level of oil in the lashes because the lash primer creates a rougher texture the bond between the client’s real eyelashes and the extensions is much stronger!
Benefits of using Lash Accelerators
Lash accelerators speed up the time it takes for the eyelash adhesive to cure. This means your client’s eyelash extensions are likely to lash longer than they would if you had not used an accelerator.
Not all eyelash adhesives have a quick drying time, if this is the case your favourite glue can still be your favourite if you combine it with a lash accelerator!
