DIY: Make Your Own Individual False Eyelashes
What’s good about Individual Lashes?
Individual lashes are great if you are looking for a more natural look and don’t like the thickness of false eyelashes. They are a great way to get creative and make your very own unique lash style.
However, apply individual false eyelashes is much more time consuming that apply a regular pair of strip lashes. This is because you have to apply each little lash strip one at a time. To apply a pair of strip lashes it can take only a matter of minutes. When it comes to applying individual lashes it really just depends on how many you want to apply. The more you want to apply, the longer the application process will be. On average it takes around 15 – 20 minutes to apply a good amount of individual lashes. This is because you have to wait for the glue to become tacky on each little strip and arrange them on both eyes in a similar way.
Are Individual Lashes Better?
It depends on the look you are going for. Individual lashes are much more subtle and natural looking. These type of false eyelashes are ideal for those who want to enhance their lashes in a more subtle way. With individual eyelashes you can control how thick or thin the lash line is. You apply the individual lashes with lash adhesive just as you would with strip lashes.
How to Make Individual Lashes At Home
What you will need:
- A pair of your favourite false eyelashes
- Lash Adhesive
- Scissors
- Tweezers / Lash Applicator
- Mirror
Step One: Select the pair of false eyelashes that you would like to make into induvial lashes. We highly recommend using 3D lashes for this as it gives a much better outcome. You should choose a pair that suit the look you are going for. For example, if you’re wanting a more dramatic look, select a pair that are full and lengthy. If you’re opting for a more natural look then go for a pair with more gaps between the lashes with a shorter length.
Step Two: Time to get chopping! Grab your scissors and decide how many little strips of lashes you want. We recommend cutting your lash up into around 6 – 8 pieces. Begin to cut the lashes into however many pieces you want.
Step Three: Apply the individual lashes! Follow the steps below if you’re unsure how to apply the individual false eyelashes.
How to Apply Individual Lashes
We are aware that if you have never applied individual falsies before it can sound a little daunting. It is not as scary as it sounds. Think of it this way, you are doing the exact same thing as you would do if you were applying a regular strip lash. Instead this time you are simply just applying a few more times but with little strip lashes.
Step one: Make sure you have all your individual strip lashes lead out in front of you. Decide how many roughly you will want to apply (you may end up using more or less depending on how much you like the outcome).
Step Two: Apply a thin layer of lash adhesive to the band. Wait approximately 30 – 40 seconds for the glue to become tacky. This is very important, if the glue is not tacky and is wet you will struggle to stick the lashes to your lid. This is because it is slippery and lacks grip. It will take you much longer to apply them all so don’t rush the glue!
Step Three: Once the glue is tacky, decide where about you want the lashes to sit. Apply the lashes to the eye using either tweezers or eyelash applicator. Using the eyelash applicator will make it much easier to be more precise and accurate. It will also make sure you have a mess free application and is much more hygienic. We defiantly recommend using the tools especially if you have sensitive eyes or wear contact lenses. Gently squeeze the falsies with your own lashes to give it a much more natural blend between the lashes.
Step Four: Repeat these steps until you are happy with the outcome. Remember the more you practise the quicker, easier and better the outcome will be. You will also begin to understand what types and styles of lashes work best with your eyes and eye shape!
Reusing Individual False Eyelashes:
Like any false eyelashes, you get the most wear from looking after you lashes by cleaning them and storing them well. We have a lot of information, guides, tips and trick on our blog page so be sure to check it out.
To Clean Your Lashes:
Adopt the KISS approach (Keep It Simple Sister), otherwise you just won’t do it.
• Prepare a small bowl of warm water with a dash of Micellar Water (or similar).
• Place the lashes to soak in this preparation for 7 to 10 minutes.
• Now gently massage the Lashes between thumb and index finder to free any Mascara or Make-Up.
• After soaking, any remaining glue should be soft enough to easily remove carefully with tweezers.
• At this point if the Lashes still have remnants of Mascara, Make-Up or Glue, take-Up-Wipe to gently massage the Lashes until clean.
• Once thoroughly clean the lashes should be placed on an absorbent paper towel and patted dry.
• Once dry, store your little treasures in their box so they are ready for you next time you need them.
Storing Your Lashes:
We recommend you use a false eyelash storage case. This is because they are made to store your false eyelashes and will have the arches to stick the falsies to. By storing your lashes well this prevents a build-up of dirt and dust which is super bad for your eyes.
