Top 10 Natural at Home Remedies:

Here is our top 10 natural at home remedies that will help to growth, thicken and strengthen your natural eyelashes! Here at Lash Envy Beauty we understand the importance of beauty on a budget, why spend more when you can spend less? The best part is that many people will have most of these products already within the comfort of their own home! You know what that means… you can get growing, strengthening and thickening your own lashes right now. Isn’t that great?

1. Coconut Oil

Not only is coconut oil known for its many amazing uses but it also super affordable, organic and available at most pharmacies, supermarkets / grocery stores and drug store. Coconut oil is used a lot on hair and in a lot of hair products found across the market. It also used a lot in skin care and cosmetics this is because of its amazing moisturising qualities. So of course coconut oil works amazingly well on your eyelashes to lock in all that moisture keeping lashes healthy and even strengthening them. Coconut oil also have a penetrating effect on the eyelashes which will help prevent loss of hair proteins. It can also be used to remove any eye makeup such as eye shadow and mascara from your eyes in seconds. We would definitely say it’s a game changer.

How to use coconut oil:

Grab some coconut oil (always best if it is kept cool), take a cotton bud / Q-tip and rub it on the coconut oil. Once you have got a small amount of coconut oil on the tip, carefully apply to your eyelashes. This is best done right before you hop into bed to go to sleep as your lashes will soak in the moisture overnight and won’t interfere with your makeup. Once you are up the next day, rise your eyelashes to remove any excess coconut oil, if you leave it on and try to apply makeup over it, it will actually stop it from sticking!

Top tip: avoid putting too much coconut oil in one go onto your lashes, this is because it will begin to feel heavy on your eyes and doesn’t make it work any better. If you apply too much you could also end up getting the excess product in your eyes. It is all about little and often!

2. Castor Oil

It’s not so much about the castor oil it’s self but what it contains. Castor oil contains a major ingredient (takes up around 90% of the ingredients) called Ricinoleic acid. Research has shown that it has potential in thickening hairs (your lashes) as well as reducing hair loss! However, although this is great it is best to do this only every 4 months or so as it can also cause dryness. We also suggest that you do speak to a dermatologist before using this remedy.

How to use Castor Oil:

Get one teaspoon of cold castor oil and some cotton buds / Q-tips. Before using this, make sure your lashes are clean and dry. Dip the cotton bud into the castor oil and apply along both your upper and lower lashes. Like anything, always be careful when applying anything near your eyes and be sure not to get any in your eyes. If you do rise or bathe your eye in cold clean water. Once applied, leave the castor oil on overnight to work its wonders. When you wake up, rise the excess off.

3. Green Tea

Green tea is great for helping your eyelashes grow. This is because it contains a rich source of polyphenol (called EGCG). Green tea is also super cheap and a lot of people will already have some at home!

How to Use Green Tea:

If you have green tea in tea bags, add a tea bag hot water. If the green tea is loose then add around one teaspoon into the hot water. Mix them together and let it sit for around 8 – 10 minutes. If it is not in a bag then stain the tea. Once you have done this, drink it and enjoy. Another use of green tea is to, once cooled grab a cotton swap, dip it and apply to your upper and lower lashes. Top tip: why not have the best of both worlds? Drink 95% of the green tea and use the left over to apply directly to your eyelashes! Try and drink green tea at least once a day.

This is great for your eyelashes as it contains a powerful antioxidant. This can help to reduce and hair damage which is important as damaged hair can lead to hair loss. Vitamin E also contains tocotrienol compounds that may help increase more hair which could lead to longer eyelashes.

How to Use Vitamin E:

There are two ways, you can either apply vitamin E straight to your eyelashes or you can consume it via a supplement (usually in the form of a powder or a tablet). Vitamin E can be found in most pharmacies, drug stores and health shops. If you want to apply it directly to your lashes, again use a cotton bud / Q-tip.

5. Petroleum Jelly AKA Vaseline

Most of us will have a tub of Vaseline at home and if not you can pick some up at pretty much anywhere. Vaseline is something called Petroleum Jelly you can buy this much cheaper than Vaseline because it hasn’t got the branding (think of it as a home brand). Using this on your lashes will moisturise, help prevent damage and help reduce eyelash mites. This will all hand in hand help to keep your eyelashes in great health.

How to Apply Vaseline / Petroleum Jelly:

Dip a cotton bud / Q-tip into the Vaseline and apply to your eyelashes. Make sure you don’t apply too much as this will just make your eyes feel heavy. Leave it on overnight and rise off the following day, especially if you’re applying makeup. If you try to apply makeup to any area with Vaseline on, it will not stick!

7. Olive Oil

Olive oil has been proven to help hair growth, this is because it contains a compound called oleuropein. If it can increase hair growth then it can certainly help your eyelashes.

There are a few ingredients needed for this one.  You will need one to two lemons, either coconut oil or olive oil and some Q-tips. Peel the lemons and place the lemon peels into a bowl, press the peels against the sides of the bowl to get the juice out from the peels. Add either coconut oil or olive oil into the bowl after removing the lemon peels. Let this sit in the fridge overnight. The next day, grab the Q-tip and dip it into the mixture and apply to both your upper and lower lashes. Make sure that you don’t apply to much on the Q-tip as it may end up in your eyes! If any of the mixture gets into your eyes then rise / bathe your eye in cool clean water. Once you have applied the mix to your eyelashes, head to bed and wash it off the next day.
